Purpose
The Private Rental Sector Landlord Scheme offers eligible applicant funding for the installation of energy efficiency and renewable measures for the properties in their rental portfolio.
Overview
The Scottish Government provides loans to eligible private sector landlords that own privately rented properties in Scotland to help with the cost of:
- Energy efficiency improvements
- Home renewable systems
- Energy storage systems
- District heating scheme connections
Loan funding values per measure are dependent on the measures being installed; however, applicants can apply for multiple measures for properties across their portfolio up the maximum funding amount for the scheme. Funding is available on a first come first served basis and is subject to availability.
Use of Funds
You can apply for multiple energy efficiency improvements up to £15,000 in total per property. Funding is available for each improvement up to 100% of the quoted installation cost but cannot exceed the maximum loan amount. For example, if the proposed improvement costs £12,000 and the maximum funding available is £10,000 but you apply for £8,000, we will process your application and consider affordability checks for £8,000.
You can apply for up to two home renewables systems per property up to £17,500 in total. You cannot apply for two whole-house heating systems in any one property, for example an air source heat pump and a biomass boiler. You can only apply for one energy storage system per property, either a heat or electric battery, up to a maximum of £6,000.
If you apply for an energy storage system, then you must also apply for a renewable system or have an existing renewables system to which it will be connected. Funding for each improvement will be up to 100% of the quoted installation costs or the maximum loan amount, whichever is lowest, unless you request less than the quoted cost or the maximum funding for which you are eligible. For example, if you are eligible for a loan of £10,000 but state that you wish to apply for a loan of £8,000, we will process your loan and consider your affordability checks based on £8,000.
Additional Disclosures
You must pass our credit and affordability checks in order to be offered a loan. We reserve the right to reject any application and our decision as to whether an applicant is eligible for a loan shall be final.
You must have an energy report which recommends the improvements you are applying for. This means the measure you are applying for must appear in the recommended measures section of the energy report. The Energy Saving Trust can access these reports electronically meaning you do not need to send us copies with this form. There should be some carbon and/or financial savings associated with the installation of the applied for measure(s).
